Quinnipiac River Watershed Association has done numerous cleanups in Southington. he two so far this year were a major undertaking at Primus open space and the other along the Q River off the bowling alley parking lot. Now we would like to help them:
Date: Saturday September 23, 9am - 12pm (rain date: Saturday, September 30)
Where to meet: parking lot at the junctions of Mill and Water streets (across from the dog park)
Cleanup goal: watershed from Mill Street south to Plantsville
Tasks:
• litter removal land and water (the hope is to recycle whatever can be)
• trim hanging branches to allow watercraft passage. Some of this can be done from land, some from the water with land assist
• Clear water obstructions
Enough participants may allow us to split into two groups. Items that would help secure this event's success:
• People!
• Flat bottom boat to protect tools and possibly portage trimmings
• Trailer to move trimmings to the central pickup point for the highway department- the gravel lot
• Chain saws
• Hand saws
• Loppers
• Waders
• Enthusiasm
