April: Red-Tailed Hawk

Apr 7, 2016 by

redtailedhawk-One of the most common hawks in Connecticut, they are often seen along the highway hunting from light poles. The red tail may not always be visible so look for the dark “belly band” which distinguishes it from all other local hawks.

Red tails eat mostly mammals from mice up through rabbits but they will eat birds as well.
Their screeching call is present in many movie sound tracks.
